My girls cherokee emits an awful smell from under the hood after prolonged driving. It also threw the temp warning light on her once. The radiator doesn't look corroded and it does fine for light driving. Anyone have any ideas?

it was unfamiliar to me. Not like oil, coolant, or electrical.

I've never had problems with a catalytic converter before so I might not recognize a problem there. The smell was not sweet though. Not sure how to describe it. Maybe I'll take it to big o and see if they recognize it

If it was the cat it would be a raw eggs smell coming out of the exhaust. So, you shouldn't smell that under the hood...this may sound kinda dumb but have ya checked around the engine to see if there's anything on it(ie rotted leaves, bugs, squirrels, toddlers etc) that could be burning???

    That's a good suggestion.
I found a decomposing squirrel nestled next to my overflow canister once. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If it's not coming on, try wiring in a switch that you can operate manually...

Part of the problem is that it uses a temp light instead of a gauge so my girlfriend isn't certain that it is overheating every time, and the times I have noticed the smell the light wasn't on and the engine didn't seem all that hot. Still gonna check the fan though

If it isn't kicking on I'll do the same.
