Re: snag installing locker, re: gap in carrier

Sorry I can't help, but if you had installed a detroit you just open the carrier and remove everything and then install the locker and bolt it back togother again.

There are 2 steel rings (one on each side gear) that look similar to the gage ring. Did those come out with the side gears or are they still in there holding out the 2 sections.

Re: snag installing locker, re: gap in carrier

came out, but i tested it both ways, and it didnt help. But what i did do was flip over the whole carrier so the longer part was on bottom instead of top like in this picture
    http://www.branndonandbrianne.com/branndon/blazer/3.JPG
and it seems to fit fine now, so i think that was the problem, because in there picture also the lobger part is on bottom. Anyway. Thanks

If it's hollow all the way through, then it's probably a roll pin, and you should be able do drive it out with a punch. At least, that's my best guess anyway /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Roll pins on the 205 are just like that. You can run something all the way through to the other side b/c they're hollow.

Re: snag installing locker, *UPDATE* and new question

so i need to go to sears and buy the special punch? then re use the old pin or get a new one from home home depot or kragen or something right. And is it at all possible to punch it out while the ring gear is installed. someone one told me no, but i dont wanna remove the ring gear if i dont have to. Thanks

I am pretty sure you cannot drive it through to the other side. I have used an ez-out and lightly tapped it into the roll pin then carefully twist it while pulling outward. Hold the ez-out with a visegrip so you can pull outward while turning it counter clockwise.

just get a long punch and drive that roll pin out, you can re-use it, but a new one is always a good idea.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

we couldn't for the love of god get that roll pin out on mine--we ended up getting a BFH and pounding the center pin till it came out the other sied and went to Lowes to buy another pin. if it looks like the center pin will clear the ring gear you wont have to take the ring gear off.

Branndon, that is a roll pin like others said. You do not need a fancy punch. Just find any punch that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the hole in which the roll pin slides thru. Don't use a BFH as all you need is just any regular household hammer.
Just take your time and hold the punch squarely on the roll pin head and tap it. If it don't move, tap harder. Just keep at it and it will break loose.

Patience here, just take your time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

That is a roll pin, definitely. I believe that all Dana axles have roll pins instead of bolts.
