I'm looking for a camping spot in so cal. It need to have water near where I can take my dogs swimming. Perfer primative camping, but will stay in a camp ground if we have to. Is there water in Afton Canyon now? Any other ideas?

There was water in the middle of the summer at the edge of camp last year and a deep crossing under the RR trestle.

My fault, I forgot to mention "real camping". I mean in the forest or middle of the desert, not a camp ground.

I can't help it. I grew up in Nor Cal. If you drive 1 1/2 - 2 hours you can find somewhere to camp with water and no people. I was spoiled.

Have you looked at the stretch of Sierra Way north of Kernville?
Gets into the Upper Kern River area and the map shows lot of campsites headed that direction. Is also the back way into Kennedy Meadows.
