Just wanted to share some info that I just learned from the Inland Empire 4 Wheelers 4x4 club - the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation trails WILL BE CLOSED TO ALL OFF ROAD USE AFTER MEMORIAL DAY THIS YEAR!!! It is a shame, but the Indians have decided to do this, and it IS their land. So, I know that some of us were wanting to go down there (especially before the heat), so maybe this will give us extra incentive to get a run planned for sometime in early May?? I cannot go in April, every weekend is shot, but early May should be open. I think that Memorial Day weekend would be a zoo there, but if anyone is interested in doing this, let me know. Also, if any of you know the trails down there, please help us out, I have never been down there. I would like to experience the trails at least once before they are gone forever, don't you??

Keith, you seem pretty good about getting things together so as long as all goes well, you name it and I'll be there.

Ok, I don't mind being the guy to get the ball rolling, but I need someone who knows Los Coyotes to help me with the trails, etc. Anyone out there who wants to help? Also, is there anywhere to camp out there? I don't know if the Indians allow it, does anyone know? If they do, how would the first weekend of May work? May 5th and 6th? The weekend after that is Mother's Day, which is probably not such a good day if you want to keep the women happy!! :) And the weekend after that is the one before Memorial Day, which I am sure would be a busy weekend for people getting ready for the Holiday...

Personally, I was thinking about going back up to Big Bear for Memorial Day weekend, do some fishing and wheeling. So how does May 5-6 work for people? Let me know...and hopefully someone who knows Los Coyotes will help me plan this...

I am a member of the San Diego 4 Wheelers and have great interest in this. I have sent a copy of the first post in this thread to the clubs mailing list asking if anyone has onymore information on the situation. I will post here again as info comes in.

As to the questions you guys had about the camping and such...Yes, camping is permitted on the reservation. They have portapotties on site but there are no hookups for RVs. Rvs are allowed. The fees are (I think) $15 per night you are there to camp, $10 for day use if you arent going to camp. the fees are collected at the gate.

Ok folks, bad news I'm afraid. I just got an email from my clubs president.

"Well the rumors are true. Los Coyote Indian Reservation is going to close down the last day of May. I spoke with the Indian Counsel Office and they confirmed it. The decision to close down the reservation was made at the councel's last meeting. The greenies convinced the tribe that four wheeling is ruining there land."

That is the official word. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Our club willholding a run up there sometime in April.. Details are still scetchy, but as I find out more, I will post here for anyone that might be interested.

Just wait till the Indians start feeling it in their pocketbooks and see how fast they re-open their reservation; greenies or not!!! LOL!!

Sorry Ken, but I don't think that will happen. they are now getting fedral funding and funding from other reservations that have casinos on them. dont expect to see it open to wheelers again. We can hope though!

I was just up there yesterday. Had a lot of fun, but it decided it, the IFS is definately coming off.............eventually.

My club, Skid Plate Off Road Team, is trying to gain permission for clubs to make runs, since the problems they seem to be having problems with are the "redneck offroaders", not the clubs. No offense to anyone here who considers themselves a redneck, but we all know who I mean. Throwing beer cans out the windows, going off the tracks, littering at the camp ground, just being loud and obnoxious, etc etc etc. Hopefully we can stay on it.

    Great idea AJM !
Maybe we can prove that we can be an asset to the tribe, offer to do some trail clean-up events. maybe campsite renovation and trail maintenance, that sort of thing. I would gladly donate my time on such activities if it would help keep those trails open to clubs.

I would love to go with you all but unfortunately I will be back in Virginia that weekend. That was the trade off so I could make the run this coming weekend in Bigbear. But I'll keep tabs on this post, because my plans always seem to change. Murphys Law.

Well, now we know that it is true. So, hopefuly we can get a run going and get to experience the place one last time? If anyone can help me out in planning it, I would appreciate it. I cannot make any runs in April, but if anyone wants to go on May 5-6 weekend, i am up for it.

Ok, can any of you guys do a Los Coyotes trip on the weekend of May5-6?? I have Russ and his wife Jackie looking into the details of what we need to do. This will be the last time any of us can drive that land, so it will definitely be worth it to make this trip! Let me know who all is interested and we will start making plans...I think if I go I would do the camping thing, is everyone else interested in that?

Just checking to see how many of you would be interested in this trip? This is the last time (and first time for some of us) that we can run this trail, so it will definitely be worth your while. Plus, it is supposed to be a killer place to wheel! Again, we are thinking about the weekend of May 5-6 and camping out there for the weekend. And if anyone has experience down that way, please help us out as far as where to go. Thanks.

Keith, I'm trying to get out of a b-day party in Bakersfield so that I can go. So far it's looking good, but you know how bosses(wives) are, they can chabge their minds at any time. Also Keith aka CaliforniaK5 might be my co-pilot this time. I can cruise by and pick him up and we'll all meet up at Los Coyotes. I'm starting to get excited again.

Cool, glad you guys can make it! Now, we just need someone down in that area that can get some info as far as where to go and which trails we can do...I have never been down there. I will be there, just need to know where to go!! Are you guys planning on camping down there when we go? I was gonna camp Saturday night probably. Let me know when you get some info, that would be great!

Also, keep in mind that on Memorial Day Weekend a few of us will be going up to Big Bear to do the trails we didn't get to see last time (and they are GOOD ones!!!!!) Hope we can get a nice group everytime!!
