after i was told by a friend who works in the shop that the head mechanic is looking for another person to help out in there, and well i filled out application and drove back behind the place tot he shop to give the app to the guy and then i find out from him that he doesnt need anyone right now and that its good to have an app filled out for him though(of course)

the shop is small, there are only 4 or 5 bays, and its real quiet in there and all you hear is occasional sound of wrenching and thats it. i thought that a freight terminal such as this would be busy and also have alot bigger of a shop than this, but i guess not.. hmm.. are all freight terminal shops this tiny ?

this possibility of employment looks very un-promising also

anything that looks like is promising ends up not being such at all.

    hmm

it is hard as &^$#! to find work right now if you are mechanically inclined and unskilled laborer type of person

ppl who have a job right now are ^$#@! lucky bastards. most everyone i know around here is also out of work too and cant find anything. is it really this horrible everywhere right now?
im tired of being without work, there has to be something somewhere, i miss having job to go to every day.. this is crap.

    hmm..

Umm no, some of us are not. Some of us just have skills that are always in demand.

Look dude, I know how you feel cause I've been there before and I've also taken jobs I didn't want so the bills could get paid that was outside my skill area, but I sure as hell ain't lucky I have a job right now.

A man's got to do what a man's got to do.

Well it like this. If You were in the desert and there was no food would You stay? So if there is no job's why should You stay? Now I don't know anything about Illinois but if it's as bad off as Your saying I would roll out of that place like a hunchback doing summer saults and never look back. I know times can be tough I had to work though the Clinton years when most of the jobs out on the market were of the temporary kind. Do this pick 5 places in the country (or world) that You think that You would like to live and then look up the job markets for those areas if that isn't working try five more. This will also tell You if the job market is bad every where or just there.

Go work for a construction day-labor place. You get paid cash the day you work, it is not permanent so you can still look into other things. If your not a drunk and you have common sense you will be an asset.

For one, every manager has the authority to write people up. If you're on duty that day and something goes on, you write a person up. My store manager sure didn't stop me, in fact, he encouraged me to do so because he wasn't there that day and thus couldn't write the guy up.

I don't fire him anyway. He fired himself when he came to work drunk yesterday. If you went to work drunk and someone less than half your age wrote you up and fired you, I'd bet you'd be as shocked as that drunken idiot. I'm a manager. It's not my job to fire people, but it is my job to ensure that every customer is given the best service, and unfortunately, when a customer walks up to you and tells you one of your workers is drunk, it generally means you have to do something about it. I did, and the guy doesn't have a job anymore as a result. That doesn't make me "In charge" of anything, that just means that I did my job.

Bubba, I certainly don't smoke crack, nor do I think that comment was really necessary.

This really is a true story BTW. I dunno how you can really question anyone's ability to fire someone when they come to work drunk, late, no call, no show all the time, etc. If I did that, I'd expect to be fired from any job. I'm not some immature little punk that just goes firing people. Someone couldn't do the right thing, and I had to do something about it.

Management is definitely not all it's cracked up to be, but it's worth it at times...sometimes only when you get your paycheck though.
