Soft top for an '86, that does not require body drilling.

go to a savage yard, buy a hard top for 20 or 30 bucks, go to a army surplus store and buy the heaviest tent material that has been treated you can find about 10 by 8 can cost you about 30 bucks, get a girder with a cutting wheel or a saw-zaw, cut the top get a snap kit for about 30 bucks and you can have a soft top any shape you want. If you are lucky you can get a top with siding glass and sell the sliding glass for that cost that it will take you to do your project.

These is what i am in the middle of, if i would have go started before the winter, and if i would have know that i would have stayed this dry and nice i would have it done so that i could take some pics.

I think I can get my hands on an extra hard top also. Thanks for reminding me of this.

Only down side is storing it. I would still want to keep my old full hard top around. Have to make a pully system to put in the rafters of the grage.

    Thanks
    Ken H.

Except, what do you do about a rear window?

    well

Well one idea is to cut the top so that the track that the rear window runs in is still attached. If you do this you might want to do what one CAT on here did and make it like a soft T-top cut from the top of the side windows and leave the center line in. There was a different person that made a wedge back top that has a BOWTIE window in the fabric $$$$. My plan is to for get about the rear window and make a wedge back is the hope that the rear set is still usable. I was going to just make it like the Skyline top, but i would never be able to uses the rear seat. I know that the rear set will be tight with the top on but it will be there.

I think I will try this... just make the side window openings a LOT larger and also make a huge 'sun roof'. So, it will basically be just a frame, and keep the use of the rear window.

That is if I can find somewhere to store an extra top.

    Thanks

if you are going to store the other on a pully system do the same with that hard top. I was at a junk yard with a friend when he was getting a 14 bolt and matching 10 bolt and pick mine up. While they where doing some work i was waking around and found a 80's k5 that was totaly striped down the the tub and fram and just offered 20 bucks for the top w/ the sliders. The owner ws in a good mood and i told him that there was a guy that had the same top that was asking 20 for it and he would be saving me about 1 hr if he would sell me his top for 20 bucks.

    Hope it helps
