Has anyone ventured to the task of making their own soft top, Kayline style like or whatever. But nothing jerried up to high heavan and all. This just hit me today as I was looking at the prices for these tops. Needless to say, last I heard these guys were going out of business... or something???????

I think the most prohibitive part would be buying the industrial sewing machine to deal with the heavy fabric. That stuff would waste your wife's Singer in short order! [IMG]

I just located a local boat top sewing shop in the town near me and took the truck to them with a diagram of what I wanted. They whipped it up in 2 days for $400.00. Check it out at :

ya but I think mine looks way better then the Kayline. As well as being exactly what I wanted in all respects. The windows are where I wanted, the sides and back all roll up to make it a bikini top, it fits perfectly over my roll bar that is there to protect my kids, and also you have to remember that I am from Canada. That means that the $400.00 is around $250.00 US. So, enjoy your Kayline, I enjoy my generic!

    Each to his own.

Nice job. Can the top fold (like a convertable)? Also, was it hard to cut the old hard top?

The top cant fold down like a convertible. The center section is velcroed to the roll bar with a sleeve, so the back, the sides or both can be rolled up leaving the center section only covering the seat. The whole thing comes off in about 2 minutes, and goes back on in 5 minutes.
The old hard top I cut with a jigsaw (before I had the cool tools). It was simple except for the rear support. There is a metal rollover support inside that kinda gave me some probs, until I realized it was there. Then the old hand hacksaw took over. Pretty simple though considering. I didnt want to drill any snaps into the body and the top is perfect.

Nice site and cool mods. Taking mine to a boat shop when its time. Thanks.

By the way; That pre-flight insp. bit on the "practical jokes" post was great, I've told it to some bodys at work, and they got a kick out of it too!
