Will the tail gate from a 70's C20 fit a 73/74 K5? (Mine has more rust than the Titanic and enough body filler to make it float). I'm ready and willing to modify any hinges or locking devices Im just curious as to the fit. Any help greatly appreciated.
By the way this site is godsend to those of us who have a K5 outside the US, only found it two days ago and am still having trouble tearing myself away. A big thanks to ColoradoK5!

As long as the donor tailgate is from a 73 or newer truck it should be a doable swap. I'm pretty sure you'd have to get the hinge points off of the donor truck as well. The real fun will be trying to acheive a decent seal at the sides and bottom of the tailgate. I would also have a look at how the two different tailgates latch, I know they're different.
    Good luck

You'll need to get every little bracket, hinge part, etc. from the donor pickup. I've seen K5's with pickup tailgates, so it is possible to do the swap. Getting a weathertight seal may be a challenge, but it seems to me that someone on this site has already solved that problem. I'm sure they'll speak up soon.

Also, click on the link at the top of the page that says "Edit Profile" and let us know where you are, what you drive, etc.! [IMG]

I plan on doing the pickup tailgate swap on my Blazer. Once I put on my soft top I would probably never go back to the hard top anyway. Plus I have no guts in my Blazer tailgate. But, last time I checked JC Whitney sells tailgate rubber seals for pickups. It simply fills the air gaps that most tailgates have when they are closed. It would probably work for this application too.
