anyway thanks to my handy grinder I just ground the bolt off, to the piece off, and then pulled the bolt with a pair of vice grips!

If you want good examples of just how stupid some designers are.....work on cars for a living! I have seen things that are proof that before you are allowed to design a car, you should have to be in the shop for 5 yrs min. If the yahoos who think up some of this stuff were forced to have to work on these abominations, they would be much easier to work on.

I am sure Twiz and Capt Crunch will agree.

I thot this up a few months ago........the shops require the techs to be drug free, not a problem, I dont like working around people that are toasted. Why dont they drug test the people that DESIGN the cars?? We almost have to be high to figure out what they were thinking.

Ok I am done ranting now. [IMG]

You should see Sikorsky helicopters. It's like they're designed to break often and be a pain in the butt to work on! I really think that most engineers have never even seen in real life the products that they design.

It's not just GM. All car manufacturers are morons.

I suggest that you try changing the oil filter on a newer, auto tranny cavalier with a 4 cylinder sometime. Or a Lincoln Towncar...or a number of others that I can't think of right now.

That is my thinking exactly Jason. If they had to work on these things there would be better designs. I have a mental list of the stupidest things I have seen on cars.

You'll have fun dropping the tank in of those too. You have to drop the rear end and the exhaust just to do it.

Speaking of smoking crack....displacement on demnad is comming back to GM in the future in their trucks. Its an idea that Cadillac used in the 80's where the engine drops fire and fuel to cylinders when the power isn't needed. It was discontinued quickly and they still didn't learn the lesson, it doesn't work.

Yup... displacement on demand (stupid name! IMO)... electronic valvetrains, The whole new higher voltage electronic systems that will have the alt, starter and flywheel all as one part and will require tranny removal to replace. (This setup is on the new BMW's right now) also don't forget 4 wheel steering and my personal PIA favorite ... the damn car actually stops running while sitting at stop lights and restarts when you let off the brake. Oh well... at least no more rough idle drivabilities [IMG] Sad part is everything is suppost to be in full tilt by 2005

I kinda like the hybrid idea. If they could come up with something that has 300 horses and a load of torque that we could throw in a K5 that gets 40-50 mpg. Imagine that, you could go over 1000 miles on one tank. That would be awesome.

If you think cars/trucks are bad try working airplanes. Lots of aluminum, all the wires are white, and you get to go inside the fule tank when there is a problem with it. Add in corrsion and some serious shock loads along with a whole crew of people doing alot of things at once and you know what I mean.
One place I use to work had a computer program designed to help the mechs. It was a scale "hand" so if the computer "hand" fit the mechs hand should fit. Good idea but it was designed an engineer and the "hand" was not attached to an arm. Sorry, but my arm is not eight feet long with six elbows!
    But I still love it.

That all sounds exasperating but try working on a Jaguar XJS with the V-12. Small car with BIG engine. The British really do some odd things when it comes to wiring a car. This is a photo of my nightmare. But when it is running right it is a blast to drive. See my pics here
