They must have felt that they beat the "Blazer, K5, S-10, Tahoe, Silverado" names to death.
I thought that they were going to end S-10 production in a few years due to the new Trailblazer?

Not by this account. They say, " The all-new version, codenamed GMT355, debutes as an '03 model in 2002"

They also say that they wanted a new name that fit with the rugged Chevy image of Silverado and Avalalanche.

Do you happen to know if that article is online somewhere? I think GM is spying on us and stole our name, watch, they will come out with the Colorado and it will have a K5 option.

Are you guys kidding me??? You haven't heard about the new K5 yet??

I am 100% serious; Chevy is bringing back the name K5. It will be a removable top SUV. I can't remember where I saw it, popular mechanics maybe, or maybe something on Speedvision. When/if I find it I will scan and post it.
I was thinking about this the other day, I figured I just missed the wave of posts about it.

Yeah, we know about the K5 concept, we are talking about the renaming of the current S-10.

I'm not up on the current stuff enough. I thought S10 went away in '95 and it became just "Blazer", and the full size model became Tahoe (I.E. no more full-size version of the blazer).

Shoot. I was all excited I had something new to contribute...

The S-10 Blazer went away, and became the Blazer, but the S-10 pickup remains. I still call the new ones S-10 Blazers though. I don't see why they rename these things. they jsu tchanged the name to Trailblazer, and got rid of Jimmy...now Envoy? Whats Envoy?

Are the ZR-2's the S-10's with the fender flares and big tires?

Yeah, I was kind of disappionted when they started calling all the pickups Silverados. Kind of takes something away from us with older, high end Chevy trucks with the Silverado package. 'Course, I broke all the emblems off the outside of mine on rocks, but I fixed them with a Sharpie. I still have the badge on the dash, thankfully.
