Well I was looking at my transfer case today to find the speedo cable and there are two sets of wire going into it. There is one that plugs in kinda on the side of it on the passenger side and another one more on the top but closer to the tranny, Actually right under the shifter linkage. I read somewhere that in 1990 they went to an electronic setup with the speedo cable and its no longer the gear driven unit on earlier ones. I unhooked the one on the side, but there wasn't a gear in there, just a small electrical connector. I didn't mess with the other one. So does anyone know if they were electrical or mechanical? Its an NP 241. Thanks

It`s electrical and the wire`s for the speedo are the one who are on the passenger side to the rear.
