The speedometer drive gear on my 87 K5 snapped again (2nd time in 6000 miles). This is the gear that connects to the speedometer cable and is located within the transfer case. I am surprised this gear with a stem on it is "plastic". No wonder the damn thing keeps breaking! Are they all plastic or can I get a metal gear? And by the way, does anyone else have this problem with this gear breaking?

Never had that problem myself, but if I were you I would find a speedometer shop and see what they can do.
