Curious as to whether there is any reason the Spicer manual hubs say off a 1970's truck won't work on an ex-auto hub axle? I put a set of these on my truck a long while back, and never did get a chance to test them. So of course tonight, when I need to turn my truck around, without the rear driveshaft useable, I put it in 4wd, lock the hubs, and proceed to let the clutch out. Got the familiar "whirring" noise my auto hubs used to make, but no forward movement. I checked the center twist piece, and I could shove it in a good 1/4 inch. I think somehow I jsut assembled it wrong, but it was starting to rain as I was pulling it apart, and I didn't have the manual handy. Were the same manual hubs available from the 70's used on the '81 up 1/2 tons, or was there a universal change one year to auto hubs?

You may have them assembled wrong. I have done that with my spicers before.. Sucks having to take them apart again!

The hubs are interchangeable, also between Chevy/Dodge/Ford.
