I am still trying to figure out what this front differential is that I bought. It does not look like a regular 10bolt or a dana44. My question is did GM make a corporate front differential 8 lug-10bolt.(The word spicer is engraved on the axels).OR did Gm make a corporate dana spicer axel 8 Lug.?? The differentials are from a full size pickup which should be a 1985. One more thing the axels are 19 spline. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

gm never built their own differentials that went into c and k series trucks.. ever.. corporate refers to AAM (American axle manufacturing) axles..

    8 lug was available as 3/4 ton 10 bolt and d44... in a 1985
    you would have half ton=10 bolt 6lug 3/4 ton=10 bolt 8 lug
    and one ton=d60 8 lug..
both 8 lugs are the same wheel pattern
d60 could be srw or drw, depending on the hubs

    in other words
you have an 8 lug 3/4 ton 10 bolt..

Just a little clarification, AAM has not always been an independant company. At one time it was a division of the General, so GM did infact make its own axles. By '85 all 1/2 & 3/4 ton fronts were 10B, the D44 was gone. All the internal hub 1/2 & 3/4 tons, regardless of weather it was a D44 or a 10B have 19 spline stub shafts.

and didnt Ford use some AAM axles for a while before the Sterling? or something like that, in turn you could get a Ford truck with a Chevy rear axle.

ive scrapped alot of 9" axles, never sold one yet, one was even a 1969 5 lug 4.10 one,

i noticed that the shredder yard in peoria has a bunch of them saved out and by themselves in a corner of the yard on pallets. i see them laying around town here and there too, out in the elements also.

    dunno.,

my rear driveshaft under my 83 K20 says spicer on it

I'd give ya 100 bucks for the first 8.8 you could find from an exploder with discs and 3.73s. Open carrier preferred, 31 spline a plus.

Yep! And every idiot with a Ranger that is an idoit and is worried that they're going to scatter their Ford 7.5" and is tired of their damn brake shoes sticking to the drums in the winter would be willing to pay good money for a disc braked 8.8 from an exploder.
