Spring perch question ... need to have new one\'s welded on.. but ...

My 14 bolt is from a 1-ton truck.. I need to have the spring perches cut off and new ones rewelded on.. how far do the spring perches need to be moved from the 1 ton to 3/4 ton measurments on the axle.
Don't know if this is clear or not.. but I have to spread my springs to install my axle..
    Thanks in advance.

A K5's spring perch distance is 42.5" center to center. A 1 ton's perches are at 40.5". You you'll need to move them both out by 1". But make sure they end up centered on the axle and are at 42.5" The easiest way to check if they are centered when you are mocking them up is to measure the distance to the backing plate mounting flange.

I had to do the opposite, I moved the perches from 42.5" to 40" for my old Burb. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

You have that backwards.... THe K5 spring perch distance is 40.5".... The 1 Ton's is 42.5".... Charles, you will have to move each perch 1" in towards the pumpkin! Just get cutting, it won't take too long!

I beg to differ. 73-up K5's are 42.5" Anyone else want to back me up on this?

Rocko's K5 is an '89, so it would fall into the 73-up category. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

You are right, an '89 K5 will need perches 42.5" center-to-center. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif The one ton axle will have them 40.5" apart.

The one tons are narrower to make up for the posibility of daul rear wheels. With the duals on the inner tire would hit the springs with the wider perches.

Re: Spring perch question ... need to have new one\'s welded on.. but ...

I don't know why mine would be any different than ya'lls. but I just measured my springs inside to inside front and rear of the perches and they are 40.5" apart.... Not to mention.... Charles has been riding on a 1 ton axle for the last 6 months to a year and when he dropped his blazer on the axle, he had to SPREAD the springs APART to fit the springs on the perches..... I'm just going from what I measured.... My springs are the exact same width apart as a stock K5.... they are 40.5" apart....... Please explain......

Alright, I just measured my 83 Blazer.... It is exactly 40.5" from the inside of one spring to the inside of the other spring.... They match exactly and I have stock rear springs and stock hangers on this one...... NOTE: I am not measuring from center of perch to center of perch.... This is from inside of perch to inside of perch! Also, my 83 Blazer has a non-modified 3/4ton rearend under it!......

You are measuring inside to inside. The center to center distance is 42.5". The 1-tons measure 40.5" center to center. So, to put a 1-ton 14BFF into a 73-up K5, you will need to move the perches outward 1 inch each.

The van 14BFF is different story, wider WMS width and perch spacing. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
