Do you mean the cookie from the banner ad corporation? Thats the only thing I can think of that would show up as "spyware" in a scanner. Nothing else from this site ever show up on my scans using Adaware. If that is what is happening maybe you should try disabling cookies in your web browser and see if that does the trick :)

    Spyware definition from <a target="_blank" href=http://grc.com/optout.htm>http://grc.com/optout.htm</a>:

"Spyware is ANY SOFTWARE which employs a user's Internet connection in the background (the so-called "backchannel") without their knowledge or explicit permission.

Silent background use of an Internet "backchannel" connection MUST BE PRECEDED by a complete and truthful disclosure of proposed backchannel usage, followed by the receipt of explicit, informed, consent for such use.

ANY SOFTWARE communicating across the Internet absent these elements is guilty of information theft and is properly and rightfully termed: Spyware."

My guess is that this relates to a cookie from the banner ads at the top of the forum pages but I could be wrong. From my experience the cookie from banner ads is the only thing that shows up on scans on my computer. You can download a program from LavaSoft free of charge, <a target="_blank" href=http://www.lavasoftusa.com>www.lavasoftusa.com</a>, called Adaware. It scans your computer for known spyware.

OK, now how does AdAware work? I went to the site, clicked "Download", and got a Quicktime .exe file that did nothing. What's up with this?

Hmm I didn't have that problem when I downloaded it :P Try this link <a target="_blank" href=http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10106-100-7302674.html?tag=st.dl.10001.list.10106-100-7302674>http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10106-100-7302674.html?tag=st.dl.10001.list.10106-100-7302674</a> There should be a green "download" button on that page that will start the download.
Let me know if that doesn't work,

If you want to "Opt-Out" from the double-click spyware you when you come to this site, just go to doubleclick.com and click on their privacy button and click on Ad cookie Opt Out. Then just read what it says. Just make sure when you clear your cookies out that you keep the Ad Cookie Opt Out one or else you will have to download it again.
