    Hi Everyone,

Can somebody tell me if there is another manufacturer out there that was supplying G.M. with starters for 6.2l engines? Somebody told me today that mitsubishi Supplied the gear reduction starters for G.M. And G.M. made their other type of starter themselves. And the diference between the two was on the gear reduction starter the bolts holding the starter together were external and the others werent. Is this true?
    Thanks,
    Mike /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

As far as I know, all factory diesel starters were furnished by AC Delco.

The 6.2L never had a gear-reduction starter from the factory. The 6.5L did. So any gear-reduction starter on a 6.2L is either a GM 6.5L or an aftermarket component built by some other company.

I might have got you on this RVtech (quick, somebody mark this date down /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) . My '89 6.2 has a geared starter on it and I don't think anybody swapped it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

OK, flipping thru the manual again.
This is a word for word quote:
"The 28MT starter motor is manufactured by Nikki Industries, in Japan and marketed by Delco-Remy. Two versions are used - a non-"mudder" for 2x2 and a "mudder" for 4x4 off-road use."

Here is what it says about application:
"The 27MT starter is used on all 1982-88 models. The 27MT is also used on all 10- and 20-Series 1989 models. The 28MT is used on all 1989 30-Series"

The 27MT is the direct drive the 28MT is the gear reduction.

    Doh! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I guess you're right. I didn't realize they put the GR starter on the 6.2L. I thought it didn't come out until the 6.5L was introduced. Well, you learn something every day!
