Fired up the rig yesterday and steam started oozing out of the defrost vents and heater vent. Does this mean my heater core is toast???
    Thanks

Yep, that what it is. Does it smell like antifreeze inside the truck ? The steam thats coming out of the defrost vents that gets on the windshield will smear when you try to wipe it off, if its antifreeze. You may also notice some in the floorboard.

    Sucks, don't it?

Really the heater core isn't a difficult project, just takes about 3 hours. Not really all that irritating compared to other things though.

    LMAO /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

It took me a minute to notice the Avatar /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    and as stated....Heater Core.

Not a bad job, and not too expensive.

Suggestion: Flush ENTIRE cooling system while doing this and replace the heater hoses if they are old or worn.

It is easier on you 1st gen only if you don't have A/C.
If you do have A/C then it will be a PITA (haven't done it yet...just heard).

Nope no AC, it looks like the core is right there in the engine bay. Just need to remove the housing and bam! Sure looks alot easier than the "other guys" /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Now tell my wife to let me have the money for it!! Or should I just go buy it and deal with her comments at a later time /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

Its better to ask for forgiveness than permission! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

This happened to my friends Bimmer when I was driving with him... it was really funny at the time, cause it started making a funny noise and he said "thats not me!" and then smoke started pouring out the vents and under the dash. So we pulled into the nearest parking lot and all this coolant poured out onto the floors on the driver side. Cost him a pretty penny to fix that import of his.
