Just pulled the steering box off the 71 Jimmy frame, see that there is a reinforcement welded and riveted into the frame channel opposite the steering box mounting. The 72 K5 has the same. I thought there was an aftermarket brace kit available for Gen 1s. If so, what does the aftermarket weld-in/bolt-in brace do? Where does it go?

    Thanks in advance

The after market one is for the later generation boxes. It is to keep the frame ffrom cracking around the bolts. Some first gens got a similar option from the factory and some did not.
    Have a nice one
