Is the steering box diferant itself or is it just the pitman arm I need from a 2wd?
you need a 2wd steering box.It orientates the pitman arm properly.
As far as I can tell, if you just get the steering shaft out of a 2wd box it will work - I will know for sure in 2 weeks! The 2wd shaft is machined so you can orient the pitman arm in 90-degree increments. I bought a Superlift Pitman arm for a '78 F-150 with a 4" drop (Superlift P/N 1104) that fits the 2wd shaft perfectly
I'm pretty sure they will work though...
This has been discussed in the "Garage" section a little bit.
A steering shaft from a later model 2wd box would not work in mine. I found a 71 GMC 2wd and that shaft would have worked. But I swapped the whole box. Dont know what year they changed.
