I started prepping to install the off-road design weld-in frame crack repair plates in my 1987 K5. Seems pretty straightforward but, does anybody have any tips that they learned during (or after) their install that might help out ?? Once it's in - it's in for good !
    Thanks, Eric

Just follow the instructions to a T. Move everything out of the way. Only weld the cracks on the outside of the frame so it will be easier to put the Brace in if you bought one. If you didn't get the steering brace also, you will later. Use 4 bolts to hold the plate on while welding it. Make sure you V grind the cracks before welding. Make sure you clean everything very well before doing any welding.

Other than that it's a snap...

    Thanks for the input -

Just got done installing the plates. They didnt fit very well at first but after spending an evening "encouraging" and "adjusting" them I won the battle. Took me 2 evenings from start to finish.

Should I go ahead and install the brace too ? Has anyone had the repair plates crack out just like the stock frame ?

    Thanks again, Eric
