Steering box from an \'80: Metric or Standard Line Fittings??

Is a steering box from an '80 2WD going to have metric or standard line fittings? Im looking for one to bolt into my '89 K5. I believe I need metric.

If the pumps are metric they say metric on the pump housing near the shaft under the pulley. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

So if the "pump" says metric than the "box" will always be metric as well?

I am sorry, I thought you said pump not box, but yes, if the pump and box are from the same year and the pump says metric then the box is also. I do believe that the "80" steering box is metric. Look into the hole where the fitting for the hose goes, if you see an invert flare fitting for the hose to seal against then it is not metric, if there is not a invert for the hose then it is metric and uses O-rings on the hose fitting to seal.

I just replaced my pump this week and i couldn't find a wrench that did fit, metric or standard. I just used a pair of vise grips to get on it. Ofcourse i had another line because that vise grip will eat it up. Thats what i did.

From what I've read and heard, ALL boxes from '80 on up are metric O-ring ports. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
