I just lost my tilt column in my 76 k5 sunday on an outing, and i am headed for the wrecking yard this week, has any body got any tips, I think i can swap mid 70's to 79, the wrecking yard claims that 80-83 will swap only within those years.

i am planing on tossing the tilt and getting a solid column.

Did the "hinge" part break? If so, you can fix it. GM sells the parts for that.

The difference in model years is going to be the wiring. The high beam switch and wiper controls moved to the "multi-funcion lever" somewhere along the way.

If you can find one from a truck that has those controls in the same place as yours (and with or without cruise control to match yours) then the rest should be a bolt in.

great let me know ? i am about 23 miles north of Dallas, have several located but wanted to get the ducks lined up first. the head light switch is on the floor and all i need is auto shift on the column and blinker switch w/or w/o cruise doesn't matter. no tilt !! i want that gone. i have had three mid seventies k5's and never liked the tilt column they all wind up lose and causing trouble.

LOL you're a trip dude. If you want a pic of the one I've got for sale, it's on the pic2 page of my website. I was having a little trouble getting on the site from here, but hopefully it's just my LAN line.

thanks brian, might take you up on it, how much for the column? i am not sure if 80 fits on the 76 that i have? this is all new to me i dont want to buy something that wont fit.

can't imagine it not being able to swap, let me look at mine tonight and see.

is the wiper switch on the turn signal switch or on the dash like mine?

I'll have to look tonite while I'm at the shop and let you know tomorrow. All I know is that they're the same frontend style, but steering columns, I sure don't know. I'll take $20 or a case of shinerbock!!!! haha. Does that sound fair, I don't know what a steering column should run.
