How do you know when the steering gear box is bad? I have a 90 1/2ton suburban and mine seems to have about 1-2 inches of play. Is there any way to tighten it up some. thanks..

There is a nut and shaft on the top of the box. It should use an allen head to spin the shaft and a 5/8 wrench to hold the nut. Loosen the nut and tightin the shaft. If this dosn't tightin up your slack then you either have a bad box or you might need to check you ball joints on your drag link. My joints are worn and I experience about 1 inch of play. Also you can watch to see if your output shaft from the box is loose IE. where the upper arm connects to the box. Have someone try to turn the wheels while you watch the arm and the link.
