I diden't think a 700R4 would live behind your 468. I' am putting a turbo and propain on my 6.2 and the local shop said I should get a turbo 400 but I would like overdrive if I can have it. what was done to the 700R4 to handle power like that?

    Thanks
    Mike

I'm using Art Carr's "extreme duty" version of the TH700. They claim it's rated to 700HP, so I figure it'll be Ok for what I do. I did kind of hedge the bet because I run mostly at higher altitude and have less motor output because of it. We loose 15-20% of our output because the air is thin, so that really helps the trans. I also drive with the lowest gears i can get away with, which means I use the Doubler a lot.
The Art Carr trans is pretty nice too, they have a number of heavy duty features to help it survive and quoted me some pretty outrageous GVWR numbers.

I considered a TH400 very seriously and decided against it because I needed the low gear and wanted the overdrive. I could put a low 1st in a TH400, but there's not a way to get an overdrive without adding one on the outside. Given a little more wheelbase, I would probably use a TH400 and an add-on overdrive, that's what I've got in the works for my crewcab.

Thought about a 4L80? They're relatively compact and beefy too. But like most nice stuff, you pay out the nose for it.

Would you have a URL for the aforementioned TH700?

    Hey Stephen,

What can be done as far as 1st gear goes in the TH400. You really got my attention on this one considering I am going to be rebuilding one in the near future. I have heard of someone making 2.75:1 first gears for them but have not found them. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

    See Ya,
    Keith

I know Art Carr offers a low gear set and I thought it was 3:1 or so, but it might only be 2.75. Don't remember now.
I don't have price info with me right now, but seems like the 400HP version of the TH700 was about $2100 or so, with a torque converter. Don't remember the warranty either. i'm not much good now am I? :-)

There is a transmission shop in Bossier City, Louisiana. They make a T-700 rated at 600hp. They call it the "Raptor 700." It has nine clutches in the 3-4, and a HUGE billeted servo. It's bigger than the Corvette servo that Jet uses.

I like mine, and I got it for the grand total of $1500. That includes the torque converter, and I didn't use my old tranny for a core charge.

If you're on a budget like I am, it's something to think about. Their web site is,

yeppers, I have a Raptor enroute to my trans shop as we speak. Everyone says they are a good 700r4, so we'll see. =) During november they are tossing in a free t-shirt and your choice of a deep oil pan or trans cooler. Not bad. With the 4x4 option, it was $1545 + freight.

I will undoubtably post a mini-review on the 4x4 forum once I test her out. =)

I've had my raptor for almost a yearand a half now, I'm kinda proud to say i brought them to this board. I haven't had any kind of problems with it, and it even came with a little yellow dinosaur (raptor) sticker. If you have anymore questions just ask - doug
