    Is there anything leaking out of it? Or you could just take it off and see how well it moves. It should be pretty slow and tough to pull out and push in. If its really easy to move, then its shot. The old shocks that I took off my truck were so cashed, that you could just turn them over and the piston would slide down quickly, from just gravity.
