Last weekend I took off my muffler on the k5. I replaced it with a 3 inch pipe from the cat to the tailpipe the only thing is. It is still not that loud does the cat make that much difference in sound. I have heard flowmasters louder than mine. What can I do to make it louder.

this is not recomended but you can use a long bar to pock out all the stuff from the inside but i would just buy new ones also if you run just a cat and no muffler you wont have enough back pressure and will burn up the valves /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

take a long screw driver and use it to chisel out all the junk in the cat. That way you can hollow it out, and it still looks like its functional. I just cut mine off though.

If I hollow it out though it will only do if a cop looks at it. It will not pass emissions right. I have heard they are starting to plug into the computer and now don't even put it in the exhaust to check emissions.

the flowmaster one chamber acts like an echo chamber, and lets the sound waves expand a little, thus making it louder

Do you have inspections to worrie about ??? If not, get rid of the whole exhaust system !!!!!! Start freash, Headers, 2.25 or 2.5 exhaust system, no cats, and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I've never ran a H pipe to connect both sides, but some people like those. That's my future plans. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I went with full lenght headers, 3" single pipe, a 3" high flow cat and a 3" 40 series Flowmaster muffler. It's plenty loud!

I have thought about the H pipe. The only place that it would really fit with out being in the way would some where between the tail end of the T-case and the fuel tank.

My y-pipe goes under the tail end of the motor making it kind of a pain to get the Tranny pan off when you need to take it off (luckly not very often). But it does hang low, about the lowest point under the truck. I'm going in tomorrow to see about a new exhuast for the truck. I'll try to take some pics why it up in the air and draw up some schemes. I may just stay with the y-pipe because its good and just spend the extra money on the 3" cat and muffler. Depends on the price and what he has in stock.
