I just went on an 800 mile road trip to Burning Man, and the truckers were impressed with how powerful my stock CB was. When I made my first stop for gas I found out why it was working so well... I think. My alternator was charging the whole time and it boiled all the water out of my battery. When I got to an auto parts store and had the charging system checked out, I was told that I was at 16 volts.

Am I right to think the higher than normal voltage explains why my CB was putting out such a strong signal?

Is it likely that it damaged the radio?

I stopped using the CB as soon as I realized that I had an overcharging problem, and it didn't blow the fuse.

    What do you guys think?

I'm asuming you had the alt. repaired or replaced, and a new batt. If the CB is still working, I'd say you didn't do any damage. Use it till it peters out, or if you would like to, take it to a CB shop and have them bench test it. Might aswell have it peaked and tuned.
