Unless it was swapped in, you don't have a D44 front. Stock they had a 10 bolt front axle. As for gear ratio's, there were many. 2.73, 3.08, 3.42, 3.73. And maybe some others. It might be listed on the options sheet on the inside of the glove box, if not, then look for a tag on the diff cover that might have it, if not there, then drop the cover and either count the teeth on the ring & pinion, or look for the tooth count stamped into the ring gear. Divide the # of teeth on the ring gear by the # of teeth on the pinion for the gear ratio.

Only real way to tell is to pop the rear diff cover and read the stamped numbers on the ring and pinion gears or count them dividing the ring gear by pinion gear. Often in these years stock gears were 3.08's. Never a sure bet though.

my 1/2 ton '85 had the 3.73s... it had the towing package. Anyway, the really easy way to tell is to check the glove box (assuming you know they havent been swapped!)... if that doesnt work, yeah, count teeth and all that poop.

If you don't find the info on the inside of the glove box, check on top of the drivers wheel well. I took me months to find it but one day I noticed something that was poking through the mud and dirt. It listed every option. I think if it's the towing package like mine it usually came with 3.73's.

not sure what yours has, but my 84 had 2.73s stock that's with the 700r4 and 305.

I found mine on the wheel well also. Mine was stock with a 305 and 3.73's. I'm thinking that was the ratio on Blazer's with a tow package.

My Jimmy has the "tow package" and it also has 3.73's, so I would have to think you may be right.

Depending on destination, the K5's axle ratios were pretty limited. IIRC, CA trucks could get 305's with 3.08's or 3.73's, but the (CA) 350 trucks could only get 3.42 as optional.

Not quite positive, if I wasn't on dialup right now, I'd check for that page that has a lot of the 80's dealer manuals.
