Does anyone know why GM lists two different grilles for '87? One is "EXC CHR GRL V22" one is with...

Is this the difference between the Silverado and lesser grilles? (Chrome or not?) Going to order one, but need to make sure I get the Silverado one!

Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?

I think the difference is that one is for a 2 headlight front end and the other is for a 4 headlight frontend...Check the LMC catalog if you have it...many years have 2 diferent grills.

the GMC and Chevy grilles are different. My 1986 has a 1991 front GMC grille. Its different than the 1991 Chevy grille. Thats probably what it is but im not sure about 1987.

I think tRusty nailed it. Back then the strippers came with 2 headlights, while the upscale trucks got 4 headlights.

I THINK it is for fog lights. My '87 has factory fog lights behind the grill but in the LMC catalog, the digram doesnot show cut-outs for fog lights. Its just a thought.

Depends what year you are looking for I guess. You can get the '87 from gmpartsdirect.com for about $57 last I checked, plus s&h. Thats not bad, especially since some of the aftermarket grilles don't even have a bowtie on them, or provisions to mount one!

Thats what I mean for Silverado vs lesser trim levels. The whole 2/4 headlight thing. Later on, the parking lights could only be in the grille or under the headlights, not in the bumper. This also explains chrome or no chrome, a Cheyenne for example, would probably not have a grille with "chrome" on it, nor provisions for the grille mounted parking lights. Thanks : )
