im thinkin about buying a used TH400 but my 87 K5 still has its 3rd 700r4 under a 3 yearwarranty (that means it will crap out at 3 years and one day). i know switching a new tranny for a used one is stupid so i was thinking of keeping the tranny off the truck untill the 700r4 died then put the 400 in, so what are some tips for keeping a tranny fresh; put it in a zip-lock bag and stick it in the back of the freeezer? any ideas would help.

ps. oh, by the way would a 400 fit ok where the 700 use to be with a 208 xfer case?

The think you would drain the tranny and the converter and put new fluid in both.I would probably put new seals on the outside before you put it in when ever that may be.Might try putting some kind of grease on the external seals too keep them from drying out.
