My 84 Jimmy has developed an unusual steering problem. It requires me to turn the wheel more to make a left. The play in the steering seem to only be in the left. The right side steering is pretty tight compared to the left. I was wondering if there is any adjustment I could make. It has power steering. I checked the tires and they all seem fine with the right amoun of air. This one has got me stumped.

I assume you have a lift on this ride. And if it does, you didnt install the steering arm to correct the drag link angles. If I am right on both counts, you NEED the raised steering arm to correct the angle of the drag link. Since you lifted it, the drag link "pulled" the pitman arm back, therefore causing a loss of right hand turning radius. Thats why you feel more "play" with the left hand turns. You just dont have enough right hand turn.

It is sitting at stock height right now. I did put new tires on not to long ago, but they were the same size as the old ones 31x10.50. But I guess I will have to go out and take a look at the drag link.

Well thats it Westy, you're fired! [IMG] You've obviously lost your psychic abilities involving a K series vehicle.

Do a thorough inspection of all your steering components, especially check the steering box bolts, they often come loose. Check the frame around the steering box for cracks, this is also common...

Have you put on a new steering stabalizer lately? if so you may have been sold a shock instead. Steering stabalizers dampin both ways while a shock only dampin's one way.

Kind of a long shot, but you may have a busted centering pin on the driver's side. Have someone else sit in the truck and saw the steering wheel back and forth, and watch to see if the axle slides back and forth on the leaf spring. While you're doing this, check all the joints out as well.

Check the drag link also...two of us here have had a problem where it took more steering wheel movement to turn one direction than the other, and mine at least was the drag link. its the piece behind the drivers tire with the two clamps on it.
