Hey guys, I am getting ready to help a buddy do his balljoints on a 10 bolt. Do you have to pull the stub shafts out of the axles to get to the balljoint nuts or can you work around them? Thanks is advance.

When you are down that far into the axle you can just pull both the inner and outer shafts out together. They just slip out. This would be a perfect time to replace the ujoints in there if they need it. You will loose some gear oil, but you can just add that back afterward.

I would just pull them so you don't have to fuss and work around them.

The axles must be out in order to remove the knuckles regardless of wheather you can remove the lower ball joint nut with them in or not.
