stud removel

    i need to remove some of the studs on the rear end i striped them by putting the wrong lug nuts on (yea i know i am an idot) but anyways how hard is it to do i have heard u have to remove the axel what all is invloled??

    Hmmmmmm.... never had to remove them but I guess you would have to remove the axle. Remove your diff cover and let all the juice drain out. Remove the center pin on the diff. There is a small (10mm on mine, so maybe 3/8) bolt holding it in place. Push the axle in (about a 1/2 " maybe) and remove the c clip and slide the axle out. Reverse the order to replace the axle!     If this is a 6-lug axle, you can usually just remove the brake drum and rotate the axle to a spot where there's enough clearance behind the stud to drive it out. If you're running a 14-bolt full floater, then you have to remove the axle shaft and the hub assembly to get to the backside of the studs.

    Is it that simple? I've never had to do it but thats good to know! Is there room with the backing plate?

    Yep, the backing plate is pretty far away from the axle flange. Gotta have room in there for the brake shoes. [​IMG] I've changed them without yanking out the axle shaft before. You just have to look and find a place to rotate the bad stud to so that there will be enough room behind it. (Have to clear the wheel cylinder, etc).

    what about the front is it just as easy as the rear?

    The front gets a bit more challenging. You have to remove the caliper and then the hub/rotor assembly. [​IMG] Then you can drive out the studs. The studs actually hold the rotor to the hub, so they're rather long.
