Ok my stupid question that has been asked thousands of times is.
The all tail signs of a 14 FF vs. SF.

From what I understand is that a FF has the 8 lug pattern and SF has 6. And the SF is still C-cliped like the weeker 10/12 bolts. I'm I correct or I'm I missing something all together?
Thanks for reading this even if no replays.[IMG]

SF may be 8-lug, at least mine is. It is c-cliped and the shaft diameter is 1.37" compared to 1.50" on the FF. The ARB-locker is available for the SF but not the FF.

So when determining what 14 bolt to buy, I guess you realy want to open the diff cover and root around inside and see whats in there. (course to see any damage) Thanks for the info.

    Check <a target="_blank" href=http://coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml> here</a> for visual differences.

    Most 14 bolt SF's are 8 lug...

does a corp.14 sf have the 8 bolts on the hub like the 14ff? also does anyone know of what a front axle with 8 lugs and 8 smaller bolt (kinda like a 14ff, but on the front) on the hub would be? i found a truck for sale with these axles.....thanks....tmanofcali

If you're looking at the drum on a SF 14 bolt it looks just like a 10 or 12 bolt...the center is kinda flat and no bolts. The FF has a protruding hub with 8 bolts on the end.

Todd, it sounds like you found an older truck with an early D44 with external hubs. The rear depends on how old a truck we're talking about. Previous to the 14 bolt FF was the Eaton, is the pumkin round with lots of reinforcing ribs?

Yes, like Rene said, the FF has a hub protruding from the center of the wheel.

it is definately a 14ff. on the front the hub bolts are big like the 14b. it doesnt have hubs that you can turn yourself. it might be just a full time 4x4, but im not sure. ive had a few friends look at it and they said they arent sure, but then again we all have lock-out hubs. i can try and get some pics if that would help. later....tmanofcali
oh by the way this truck is about a 1974 or 75.
