OK some how in the span of about 42 seconds my 21 month old son figured out how to move the task bar from its normal horizontal position, to a very geay vertical one on the right hand side of the screen, and no promises of cookies and juice will get him to reveal just how He did it.

Also as unfortunate is that his father can’t figure it out, and task bar options in control panel are no help, any suggestions??

Click on it and drag it back to where you want it.

I'd like to know the answer to this one also....

My mom's new laptop has the same vertical taskbar and the "click and drag" only changes the shape of the bar....not it's orientation (horizontal vs. vertical)

Checked the menus, properties, settings....can't figure out how she did it, or how to help her "undo" it.

    If you have XP:

Right click on the task bar, make sure "Lock Taskbar" is not checked. If so, click it to toggle the lock off.

Find your start button. Click between it and the first dotted line. Hold the click and drag it to the bottom. When it flips down there, let go of the click.

Right click your taskbar and re-lock it.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Left-click or right-click?

So far, by clicking on those dotted division bars the only thing I've been able to do is move the "Quick Launch" buttons out of the toolbar and onto the desktop....???

Nevermind, I figured it out now.....

The icons in the QuickLaunch are kind of big, so the taskbar is taller than normal, but it's a lot better than it used to be.

I also "locked the taskbar" so this shouldn't happen again!!! :)
