i have an 88 full size blazer, and when you are stopped at a light, the engines revs itself and tries to move forward it does it about every seven second, what could that be?

another problem, blue exhaust on ignition, would that mean we need new rings or a valve job?

The surging sounds like it might be the TPS (throttle position sensor).

Blue exhaust on first (cold) startup is usually valve guides, my wife's van does it all the time when cold. Just means they are tired..........won't hurt anything to keep driving it like it is..............

does your 88 have tbi? my 87 does, and it too surges at lights. People have told me it is a vaccuum leak somewhere..maybe around where the air cleaner mates to the tbi unit? I guess your supposed to have a gasket there...
    Hope this helps...

I had the same problem withmy 89. I replaced the gasket between the tbi and the intake and it solved it.

blue smoke only at start up is 90% chance you have a bad valve guide. it could stay like that for the next 100,000 miles or get worse fast and you can burn alot of oil. i had that problem with my 305 i went through a quart of oil every 100 miles

When my injector went bad it had a similar feel. When it acts up, take off your air cleaner, have someone put it in drive (while holding the brake) and check to see if each injector has an even cone shaped spray.
