Anyone out there interested in swapping motors? I got a real nice 454 installed, but the gas mileage for a daily driver is really eating me out of my home. If anyone wants to trade up their small stroker for the unbeatable power of a 454, let me know.

I will give EVERYTHING needed to install. I have the complete engine, balancer to flywheel, K&N to oil pan. If interested, post up!!! [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Why not install a decent running 350 for now and keep the 454 aside till money gets better? You know what you've put into the 454 and it will be costly to replce one day...and you will go back to the BBC one day.

Just my two cents...I've seen plenty of stock decent running 350's for mere peso's in the classified's.

I agree with Rene. Save the motor. You will be glad you saved it when the later time comes.

Think of it this way: if the truck is paid for, what would you rather pay for...gas or a truck payment?
Thats the way I see it with my truck. Its paid for and gas is still cheaper than a truck payment. [IMG]

it aint gonna use less gas with a wimpy 383 or what ever gas mileage comes from gearing and driving habits. you might put in a stocker 350 and save a little on gas but prolly not. i had a dually that i pulled a trailer with ( loaded with 2 cars) with 350 crate engine it got 5 MPG and had no power it would not pull a hair outa your butt. so out comes the 350 and in goes a 462 ( 454 bored 30 over) r.v cam and manifolds no headers. it would pull 2 cars 75-80 miles an hour all day long. and get 7-8 MPG. and still have power to pass. the funny thing is both engines got about 9-10 MPG when empty. so no mo small blocks for me. keep the big one dude!!! you will be sorry.

Hmmm... Sounds like a nice setup, but I don't know if its a possible candidate for a swap. Maybe if you have the computer, harness, and all the sensors too?

I have to agree with everyone: Keep your 454. you won't get any better gas mileage with a small block, because you have to put your foot into it farther for it to produce torque. I learned this one with my suburban.... when I got it, and dumped a 350 in it, i only got perhaps 9 MPG on a good day, where I idled everywhere. when that blew out, and I put a 454 in it, my gas mileage improved a lot... I get 13 MPG< regardless of driving habits, load, speed, etc. the key is to get your carb dialed in properly for your engine ( and not run 4.10's) heck, I like 454's so much, I have a spare sitting out in the middle of nowhere, waiting for me to find a strong enough tranny/Tcase combo to put it in my K20. if you want, I have a 350 I'll trade you for that 454... its the one in my K20... it needs some work ( prolly a rebuild) since it has low oil pressure, and a loose timing chain. but I'll gladly let you have it in exchange for your crappy ol' gas guzzeling 454... I'll even pay shipping on both engine mailings... :-P

on another note, my 454 only pulls 300 HP, but it makes up for it by dumping out 540 Ft Lbs torque... ( I also havn't done anything to it, except recam it with a high torque cam) I'm thinking about building up my `spare' 454 to some extent, and if it turns out to be a Mk4 or later block, I'll be putting vortec's on it.
