There is a wave washer that is supposed to go between either the shifter and the adapter, or the shifter and the bolt head. If that isn't present, at least on mine, it rattles pretty bad.

    Annoying isn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Only other thing I can think of if the washer is present, is that the shifter handle is hitting the body. Was doing that in my truck, but only because the transfercase was supposed to be a 208, not a 205. When the transfercase torqued over, the shifter would just barely touch the body, but it would rattle pretty bad.
