I know this isn't really the specialty here, but got the wife a 99 Tahoe yesterday. Old body style with the 5.7 vortec. It has some sort of a 2-3" lift because it has 31's on it with plenty of room. Anyway just wanted to ask anybody that drives one of these of any known problem areas or things to keep an eye on. I told her now she can get a CK5 sticker:D

    I have a 94 TBI model...... I love it!

Motor did leave me @ 167k miles....
Put new crate motor and crate tranny in.
Replaced fuel pump @ 180k miles - just cuz....
Need to replace A/C compressor due to front seal leak.
Replaced water pump once, and alternator once....

Other than that I just wish it had a little more oooomph when towing.... Which yours may have!

Nice, same color as mine, now clean that thing up...

Uh just watch out for intake gasket leaks and the fuel pump will die on you sometime, usually the most unopportune time. Otherwise nothing major..

not generally a problem with pre-96 models, it seems that the elimination of the center two bolts (a la Vortec) is a problem... who'da thunk? :screwy:

looks like a stock truck to me, with a torsion bar crank. check out the CV angles on the front. cranked too high, the CVs will come apart pretty easily.

    good looking truck BTW. :waytogo:

Yeah I am not sure if it has been cranked everything up front looked pretty normal. It is a lot higher than the other two 99's we looked at thats why I was thinkin maybe a leveling kit or somethin. It runs strong. It has some sort of aftermarket exhaust, but thats all i can see. It sounds beefy:D I am gonna clean it up if it ever stops raining in central Cali:crazy: The only thing I don't like is the wheels are 10" wide for 10.5 tires:rolleyes: but I should be able to clean up the Welds and get some $$ for something different.

all ifs gms eat ball joints and ideler arma and pitman arms.

the 96-up vortecs have plastic intake gaskets with oring seals on the ports. the plastic fails from the heat. 90% of the time thay leak externaly.

Yeah it has something up in the front end, but we have a fix it contract with the dealership. First thing I thought it might be was the idler arm. Kinda got a little death wobble :eek1: I don't care though thats on them to fix, but good to know about the stuff everybody mentioned.:D

Looks about as stock as my '95. Maybe a torsion bar crank??? The rear 10B went on mine (big supprise) and I replaced it with a 6 lug SF14B from an '88 LD2500. My driver's seat is kind of messed up, but I think that's from the P/O's size.
