My tailgate won't go down when I pull the handle on the inside. It's jammed somehow. I have taken off the panel on the inside of the tailgate, but can't see in there well enough to be able to figure out what the thing is supposed to do, or how it does it. Has this happened to anyone else? an suggestions on how to fix it?

I'm relatively certain there is something in the tailgate that is supposed to let it be opened only when the window is all the way down. It may be right at the bottom of the access panel opening, as I believe the bottom of the window hits a piece there (has a small spring attached to it) when it opens. Certainly sounds like the problem.

Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?

Mine kinda sticks sometimes, so what I do is push in on it and while I am lifting the handle. Hope this helps.

okay, neither of those ideas worked, any others? I can't move the mechanism at all, it's like it's bound up somehow...

My bet would be that something is jammed at the sides of the gate, where the latches engage the bed rails. Don't laugh but maybe if you spray some wd40 along the sides of the gate and then hit the gate real hard with your hand to unjam it at the same time pulling the handle. You need 2 people! That's about all I can offer. Good luck

I figure this is probably the least of your worries, but since there isn't much other input, why not try pulling the two "bars" that run to the center near where the handle is? Pull both of them towards the center, and that will unlatch the tailgate. (if whatever is stuck allows you to pull them) Once you get it open, you may be able to see whats going wrong in there in the daylight.

I have to open mine from the left side and the left side ONLY! I tried toi straighten the mechanism inside but it went right back to "normal". Try pulling from one side or the other,
