ok guys... first of all how many stupid layers are there in tailgates?

as some of you know I'm doing the paint prep work on my off-road k5.

well here is my problem; there was some bubbling rust under my paint in the middle on the bottum (not very bottum about an inch up). well I'm thinkin I need to check out the inside to make sure I'm not getting rot from the inside.

well I take the cover off the inside, and check it out finding no rust. well I should have been smart enough to check that out first, but I started stripping the paint, and when I got to this (it is in the middle) I got a big surprise. I found it rusted clean through 2 layers, and third below it. is this omething that can be repaired with a patch, or should I replace the fender?

also, about 4" from it is a small spot (about the size of a pin head) that was a little rusty. that small spot had gone clean through the first layer.

BTW how much is an aftermarket tailgate? I'm thinkin even if I can pick one up for cheap that I probably won't do it.

LOL - yea I don't think you have any paint problems... [IMG] I do wanna stop the rot, but I'm not going to spend enough on a paint job I will be afraid to use it.
