Anyone own/fire one of these before? I'm kind of eyeing the 4" ported bbl SS version.

Try here for a similar model, it's tracker in .44 Magnum

I had a Taurus M44 .44 magnum, it was great gun, but the cylinder release latch screw backed out and I had to tighten it to have it operate. Too many heavy loads maybe.

    Anyway, I loved it

I was primarily looking for a 357, mainly for being able to shoot 38 special and 357 loads. If I want a larger caliber later, just gives another excuse for another gun ;)

Did you have any issues with the porting on the barrel (like powder burns)?

They'll make you deaf in a big hurry, personally I'd much rather have to deal with kick then have a gun so loud that you have to ask the intruder to hang on while you put in some ear plugs...:eek1:

I've been around ported shotguns, I think I've got a fair idea how loud ported guns are. I'm in no need of a "home defense" weapon right now. Just want a handgun to shoot and be my sidekick for hunting/camping/fishing. Nevertheless, I picked up the 627 tonight. Can't wait to go out this weekend :D

I fired a 44 almost identical to the one RJ linked and I thought me and my buddy were done and getting ready to go back out hunting again, so I took my earplugs out and then he handed it to me one more time. So I fired it without thinking and instantly I lost 50% of my hearing and was pretty scared it was gonna be permenant, it took a good 4-5 hrs to get back most of it...:o
