TBI-truck surging

    I know this problem is not on my k-5 but figured I'd post it here as it's relevant....I have a 1987 chev 1ton dually with the TBI 454 and have a problem with it surging intermitently at all speeds....yes, I've changed the fuel filter....some days it's fine, some days it's terrible....help....it's my money maker...(Tow Truck)...thanks...ED

    Have you had a fuel pressure gauge on it to see what the pump is doing? Probably isn't the cause but first good check to try. Injectors should also be checked. The FP regulator could also be causing it. Also would check for Vacuum leaks (listen, carb spray/propane,and cover up tests) and also would double check the EGR is functioning and not stuck or gummed up. Good Luck.

    The TPS {throttle position sensor} could be on its way out. My first 87 K5 with a 305 would do that intermittently.

    It sounds like a fuel pump or ignition module. My module has gone out twice and both times it ws rather sudden. At least you can tow yourself home[​IMG]
