what are the major differences between the 2? It will be behind a 454 that will be built at a later date. who has these and what are the pros and cons if you have the time. thanks.

The TCI 700 is only rated for 420 lbs of torque. So a built 454 may be a bit too much.

yea I'd second that... plus you can tow with a 700r4 in OD, and it isn't that much different in price then the TCI... When this tranny I have dies I'm debating on the TCI or the raptor actually because for my application I don't know if it will be worth the extra $$$.

  4. Got tohttp://www.700R4.com and check out what they have for a 700R4. When i was looking for one I talked to these guys and I was impressed at the work that goes into them, the price and there experience. I'd give them a ring. Or go with an Art Carr

IMO The Art Carr's and Raptors are the best you can buy! The TCI would be my next choice if you just want a solid quality replacemnet and aren't gonna put nothing more then moderately modified 350.

I personally know someone with a Raptor and he said eveything stated is true. He loves it... on the other had I know a few guys w/ Art Carr built trannysand they are great, but none are 700r4's, but Stephen Watson runs one behind his BBC. Well I think right there tells ya how tough that is.

thanks guys. i am leaning towards the raptor for the fact i happen to live about 2 hours from the shop in louisianna if i'm towed by a buddy. anyone with a raptor i would love to hear from you, really don't want to throw away $1500, if ya know what i mean. by the way i won't be going crazy w/ the rebuild unless i get another truck/ k5, this is still a dailt driver.

    Ski,

I *just* got a raptor dropped in my 85 Jimmy. Only driven on it twice, but it seems to be working flawlessly so far. The guy at PATC has gotta be a guru by now, hes made like 4000 Raptors...if anyone can build a better 700R4 for $1500, I dunno who it is. ;)

If I have any probs in the near future, I'll put it up on the forums,

    Jason
