I just posted some pics of the broken bell housing and the side by side of the Ultra Bell housing.
Uploaded the completed pics as well now.

Well, all done and I'm quite happy. Time to have a beer and relax. I'll install it tomorrow!

    The Ultra Bell looks beefy!

Is that a 'C' I see cast into the TH350 bellhousing? Looks like a 2WD tH350 has been swapped in at some point in the past...the 'K' version (4WD) has a much thicker bellhousing.

Looks like you got the fix though...I can't imagine the Ultra-Bell failing like the stock piece!

Well, since I can't find any 'obvious' reason why it broke then I can only speculate that the K series for 4x4's were made for a reason! I agree, I don't think the Ultra Bell we be the next point of failure, and the rest of the case is much thicker than the bell. I'm willing to bet the next thing to go is either the driveshafts or the 1/2 ton axles!

ya know the 2wd trannie that i converted over to 4wd had a big L on it. it came out of a 3/4 pickup. wonder if this is something between a car and 4wd in strength? it doesn't have the 6 bolt inspection cover like the 4wd ones do though. know anything about the L cases?

The only thing I know about slush-boxes was to look for the 'K' on the bell to make sure it was a 4WD version case.

BTW I am LMFAO at yer new sig...but I definitely don't want to feel yer nipples![IMG]

That looks great. How long did it take to cut the bellhousing and install it on the tranny. I am glad it worked out for you.

It really didn't take that long, I'd say about an hour in cutting and grinding. At first I only cut off enough to fit the bell, but it looked strange once it was assembled. I took the lip down to just before the case and it looks better, almost factory. It won't catch as much mud in it either. It definately looks and feels strong but only time will tell [IMG].

I'm not sure about the bop pattern, I'd check their site. It ran me about 265 deliverd next day.

Just looking at your pic's of the bell it looks like it is a dual pattern bellhousing. I'm fairly sure it would bolt to any GM motor now...

Re: TH350 Bellhousing Carnage & UltraBell Pics

Well the Thick bell housing cases didn't come in till sometime between 76 and 78. My 75 has it's original tranny and it's a thin one. The lady's 79 has the thick one. That 203 haning on the back of the TH350 is what really caused the bell housing to snap. That's a problem GM found they had and why there is a thick bellhousing TH350.
I have been keeping an eye out for the thicker belhousing case to pick up if I bust mine. Now I'm thinking of 465 with a HD scatter sheild style bell housing.
Good to know there is a way to deal with a busted bell housing. I was not aware of that set up. So how much does that run?

Re: TH350 Bellhousing Carnage & UltraBell Pics

It ran 265 shipped overnight and the cost of a few air saw blades, grinding wheel, etc.. Unfortunately, its not a perfect fit. I just mounted it back up and my low stall TCI convertor rubs the bell. I'm going to have to pull it... again.... and clearance the bell just a little. So much for a relaxing weekend. I guess I can't complain though, just watched a neighbors tree fall onto someones new Dodge Dakota. It was a eucalyptus tree with a 2 foot trunk... they are calling for a crane and chainsaws now... the truck is totaled!

Just for the reference book later, the casting mark was a G. I couldn't find anything anywhere on the net referencing the casting numbers so it I guess were it!

I had to slim down the bolt profile with super thin stainless stell washers and grind the edges of a few of the bolts to clear the TCI, stock convertor rubbed even worse. Had to clearence the bell as well in several areas. I'm pushing up pictures as well. Figure I'll send the Ultra Bell guys a little review and a few suggestions. Took it for a drive and everything is back to normal... if thats possible!

I'd guess that most of the UltraBell's get sold to drag racer types. They typically run very small convertors, with extremely high stall ratings (like 3,500 RPM and higher). [IMG] They wouldn't have the clearance problems. [IMG]

Yeah, I can't complain I guess. They should have that documented though. Consequently, I picked up a bad vibration this morning all of a sudden. The T-Case U-joint went out on me. Thankfully it didn't grenade and drop the shaft. I had a feeling that would be the next piece to blow up. now I'm running on front wheel drive and wondering how long its going to last...
