Okay, the damn thing won't shift until the rpms get really high and then it'll shift. Sometimes it will drop from second to first. This was during a test drive, the guy said that the kickdown wasn't hooked up... will that make a difference?

Sounds like the vacuum line isnt hooked up or the line has a hole in it. The kickdown not being hooked up it would drive fine just would not downshift when you got on it. My kickdown isnt hooked up.
