Apperantly the NORCAL guys talked to someone at "Big Dog" and as long as the club only sells to members they are allowed to have the store and use the name.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

YA, We're in the clear as long as we hide. We can only sell to members of our clubs. I.E., Nor Cal and only sell to thier members, So Cal can only sell to our members.

I guess it could be worse, we could be in court.

[/ QUOTE ]you can thank trademark, and Copyright law for that one... if a company doesn't police it's own trademarks, then it's at risk of losing thier exclusive right to use them. this is why we have such great things as the Jello Corporation suing crappy bands like "Green Jello" for using thier namesake in thier band. (does anyone even remember Green Jello....?) As per the history channel, Coca Cola fought vhemlently to keep the word `Cola' from being used by any other soft drink manufacturer when they were first starting up. in this way, they managed to kill a vast majority of thier competitors. thier one failing, was PepsiCola. initialy, they beat them down with a stick, but Pepsi Cola came back with the fact that Cola was a generic ingredient, and therefore not a trademarkeable name. fastforward to the great depression when pepsi sold for 1/2 the price of coke, and you suddenly have a loyal base of customers. fast forward to the 80's, when Coke blundered and invented New Coke, (Called Coke-si by many) and you have the current cola war situation.... but I digress.

big dog corporation is just doing it's part to make sure some punk kids who own big trucks aren't ripping off thier copyrighted/trademarked material, lest they lose thier trademarked name.

Lets try not to bad mouth Big Dog. They have allowed us to keep our name and are not bothering us. I don't want to give them a reason to come back after us.

The layer I contacted said we have a case to fight against them, but chances are we would run out of money before they did(which we would). So at this point it is all over as long as we follow thier rules. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif
