We're feeding the deer again this year. Every night for the last couple of weeks a group of 5 or 6 Bucks have been comming for a free meal. Pretty cool looking out the window and seeing a 11 point, a 9 point and some young bucks in the yard. We also get a couple groups of Does also.

Hey, this ol' city boy is still taken in with seeing deer in his yard, LOL. I mean, it's no big deal seeing them in the forest, but in my front yard is still pretty cool for me.

LOL, I live in a trailer park just outside the city limits (If you can call a town as small as Rapid City, SD. a city, LOL). There is alot of traffic here, so the deer are skidish. They're White Tail out here. I do like too watch them as they sneak up in the yard. One will eat while the others stand watch.

There is a town that I drive my semi through every night and there is a place where the deer gather to eat and hang out. They just stand out in the road and look at you. I got out once and tried to catch one but he ran away! If I would ever be there in my K20 I would just run them over.

I know the deer are fun to watch, but feeding them makes them venture closer to civilization to get food. Successive generations of deer grow dependent on this food source, and BOOM! Bambi ends up getting whacked by the SUV in the McMansion development, and everyone's insurance rates get to go up.

In the meantime, the animal rights crowd wants to shut down deer hunting because they think it's more cruel to shoot and eat them than it is for them to get hit by a truck because they're so damn many of them too close to civilization.

between folks feeding the deer in their yards, and the bleeding hearts, sensible wildlife mgmt is just about impossible. It's all walt disney's fault for making deer seem cute - n - cuddly. damn communist. Good think he didn't make movies about cows, or we'd never get to eat a steak without some upset housewife shrieking at us.

    Bambi.. it's what's for dinner.

    Tom

Good point, but in my case I live outside the city limits, Deer are running through the yard anyways, see them hit on the hwy anyways, it's something that's going too happen regaurdless, everyone who lives around here knows they are out-n-about at night. They come down from the hills every winter too search for food. It's just a fact of nature. I don't mind feeding them each winter. Come spring they go back up in the Black Hills national forest, and we don't see them till the following winter. I live about a mile or 2 from the tree line of the forest.

Would like too, but live too close to other homes, so Johnny Law may not be too happy if I did, not too mention the owner of the trailer court. But some Deer steaks does sound good. Guess I'll keep fattening them up for the hunters.

I've never seen a deer drop the instant an arrow hit it. My luck would be that the deer would run over and die in a neighbors front yard, right under a street light. ;)
