so anyway, a new guy started at the shop today...coming over from the dodge dealer. anyway, we get to talking, and he says "yeah, im from vegas, grew up with robby gordon, jeff gordon, (not brothers i think) and a bunch of other desert racers/nascar guys." (the list was kind of long) says he worked for walker evans building trucks, and has some pictures of some cool stuff, a class 8 truck with his name on the door, etc etc.

im 50/50 on this one because on one hand he had some pics to back it up, but then he says something like "oh yeah i built a '70 challenger and sold it to some guy for $35k and it wasnt even 80% built".

why would you work for a dealership (as a tech) when you can build tube frame cars/trucks and sell them for lots of $$$?

the reason i ask because if he can back it up, my k5 is gonna have one hell of a cage in it.

    ryan

He's full of it... This guy I work with has pictures to back up some of his stories, but that doesn't make the rest of them true...

why do people lie to try to impress you? i've worked with several big time liars. i agree with you k30, the first couple of minutes, you can tell.

hijacking my own thread.....whats the biggest lie you've ever heard somebody say...?

Assistant Manager Ernie: "i've got a crabbing boat, thats where i make all my money, i only work as assistant manager (at a tire store-ryan)for something to do during the day. im up at like midnight to get on the water by 2 am. during crab season, im making $60-75k, i dont need this job...."

I don't know why people lie but I'm in the place they do it the most.

Everyone at school seems to lie about what they have at home(car wise). I don't get it. Why lie and say you have a 1990 Supra when you just plain don't? I caught the one kid in a lie at one point. Was a picture of a chick he said sent him the picture, she was a "Real-estate" agent back in NYC... I took one look at the picture and knew immediately who it was, it was an internet porn star. I brought up the site and said, hmmm really?? I even found the exact photo series he stole the pictures from. Sad...

I can't say I've never lied or imbelished, but not like these people, I don't get it.

I'm too lazy to lie. If you tell those fantastic stories, you have to keep up with them.

I've run across those guys IN the racing biz too. IMHO they are insecure about themselves. It's the guys that you have to pry the stories out of that usually have the best ones. I once prodded my crewchief for a story and he came back with "You mean like the time I found a dead body in the Nevada desert? Or the time we pre-ran right thru Boron, CA in the middle of the night and didn't know it until the cop pulled us over?"

I have spent a great deal of time in the aviation world as a pilot and man you have never heard such BS. Everyone is trying to make others believe they are "top gun". Most people that lie like that are just plain insecure. They think people won't like them unless they are the best, or have the best, or whatever.

I can't stand it when someone tries to be somebody they aren't.

I think alot of it has to do with maturity, but then some people never mature :o

I'd still ask him to design a cage for my truck, catch him in his bluff. I don't know why, but if someone isn't telling the truth, I want them to know I know :D

When i bought new tires for the k10 and told them at work they did not believe me till they saw the recipt sp and the tires on my truck. :D Last week when i told them i got new tires for my dd datsun i get a "are they new or new to you?". :haha: I don't need to mention that they were just new to me. So they know my dd started acting up and i was messing with it from day to day trying to figure it out. I mention one morning that i put a new fuel filter on it since i finally found one instead of just the wire screen going into the carb. And what do i get? "wait a minute is it a new filter or just new to your truck?" Of course i have to explain that the wrecked bronco in the yard had this shine new looking fuel filter just shining accross the yard since the front clip was off. Well it was new to my truck. of course one of these are the one that gave me new to my truck tires and anther one was the one that gave me new to my truck oil for the k10 the last year that i drove it. The one that gave me new to my truck tires left behind me one day while driving the k10 and claimed to get oil on his windshield from my, as they call, pristine pickup truck. It did not smoke no worse than some diesels that i know though. :doah: Maybe not exactly a lie but i think pretty funny.
